About the Project
A digital Stethoscope is a device able to convert an acoustic sound to electric signals, which can be further amplified for optimal listening. There are many sophisticated digital stethoscopes available in the market. The necessity of digital stethoscope has grown much bigger especially in the current scenario of pandemic. Most of the digital stethoscopes available in the market costs a fortune. Here, in this project we aim to produce a quality digital stethoscope with the help of some components of acoustic stethoscope, a microphone and a mobile phone. Most important feature of this attempt is that the Stethophone could be upgraded in terms of its capability and quality.
Following are some of the useful use cases of the Stethoscophone:
- Remote diagnosis in cases such as COVID-19
- Used for telemedicine at the health posts in remote villages (especially in developing countries)
- Pre Diagnosis with the help of Machine learning.
- Collecting data for research
3 modes of operation
- Store, enhance (signal processing, for eg. amplify) and send to doctors
- Live audio diagnosis by doctor (two apps)
- Machine learning for preliminary diagnosis (Healthy/Unhealthy…)
Advantages:
- Cheap because it uses the existing mobile phone (just need to install an app on it to process the signal)
- Modular hardware, which makes it easy to upgrade the hardware
- Easily upgradable software.
- Easy to add and improve the features.
- The accuracy of the machine learning algorithm increases as number of users increases as more data is available
